イタリアの現代美術家フランチェスコ・クレメンテ（Francesco Clemente）は1952年にナポリに生まれる。1973年にインドに旅行し強い影響を受ける。1982年からはニューヨークに住む。
初めてフランチェスコ・クレメンテの作品を見たのは「20世紀イタリア展」（東京都現代美術館、2001年）の『ルード』（1981年）だった。
